Appalachian Expeditions is a mission-driven organization. As such, we strive to get more people outside enjoying this beautiful part of the world through adventures with friends–new and old. Maybe you are scrolling through our website and have found a program you want to attend or would like your child to attend, but the cost is a barrier. We want to eliminate that barrier and bring you and/or your child on a trip. We are grateful to our community of people who are willing to contribute to our scholarship fund to make these trips possible. For more information on ways to give go to the Support APEX page.
Who is Eligible?
Our scholarships can cover anything from 25-100% of tuition for the program of your choice. Decisions made on scholarships are based on the following criteria:
Financial need: We consider household income and number of children in the household.
Participant Drive, Desire, and Attributes: In the scholarship application, the participant is asked to answer questions about why they want to participate, their interest in the outdoors, and what personal attributes they will bring to the group (i.e. new perspectives, sense of humor, etc.)
Diversity: We recognize and appreciate our differences as a source of strength and seek to provide scholarships that will enable a diverse group of participants to attend our programs.
Location: Our mission is to get more kids out in their backyards, therefore, applicants attending school in West Virginia will be prioritized.
Funding: Limited funding is available. We also take into account the amount of scholarships already delivered for a particular program.

How it Works
- Begin by filling out our Scholarship Application.
- We will review your Scholarship Application and respond via email or phone call with your award.
- You will submit an application through our online portal, which includes a reference and $10 deposit. Once application and reference are approved, we will email to ask you to complete the registration and payment by using a scholarship coupon code at checkout.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis so applying for scholarships sooner is better. There is no deadline to apply.
