Women’s River Trip

Women’s River Trip

Three days on the Cheat River to relax and learn basic paddling and camping skills with great people!

Trip Overview

There’s nothing quite like a river trip that gets you to sync up with the flow of the natural world around you. On this three-day trip you will travel by canoe down the tranquil waters of the Cheat River, spending two nights camping in backcountry campsites along the way. You will learn basic paddling and camping skills in a supportive environment from experienced and fun female instructors.

What to Expect

We will meet at Blackwater Outdoor Adventures (BOA), a canoe outfitter located in beautiful St. George, WV. The first day we will go over all the river basics: canoeing equipment, paddling techniques, information about the river, and what to do if something goes wrong while you’re on the river (i.e. you are headed for a wave or rock). Additionally, we will check over everyone’s personal equipment and camping gear and make sure we have what we need. After some practice in empty boats, we will pack our gear into dry bags, into the boats, and head downstream. We will paddle from 4-8 miles each day, leaving time for delicious meals and relaxation while in camp, and for swimming and exploring while on the river. On the third day, we will get picked up in a van and shuttled back to BOA to wrap things up and say our goodbyes.
